1. Stop habits that destroy healthy gums. What are these bad habits? Smoking, for sure, not only stains your teeth, erodes your gums and gives you smoker breath which is offending to some.
Chewing on hard and tough food makes your teeth work extra harder. These can include ice and hard candies. Even cold items like ice cream and cold drinks can create sensitivity in your gums over time.
2. Start the habit of flossing. It is a difficult habit to start, but once you get the hang of it, you would like to do it daily. Flossing can reach and dislodge the food particles stuck in the crevices and hard-to-reach areas of the gums. Plaque and food that is beyond the reach of your toothbrush can be removed along with the bacteria.
3. Using correct oral care products. These include toothpastes that contain safe levels of fluoride. Remember to brush diligently twice a day. Sometimes, using a battery-operated toothbrush cleans better than manual toothbrush. If you are using toothbrushes, don’t forget to change every 3 months.
